On Saturday the 14th at 4AM UTC/GMT we will be upgrading the operating system of our network load balancers to a newer version, one that will allow us to use both CPUs! Nifty, because multiprocessing is nice.

Since we have 2 load balancers, the plan is to upgrade 1 at a time, and there really should be very little impact to our website. Hopefully you won't notice a thing and I'll get to go back to the hotel and watch some wonderful late night infomercials.

We've got a lot of exciting projects coming up for 2010 and we're hoping that we'll be able to deliver them all to you, that you will find it useful/cool/lovely and then you will use the site even more. Behind-the-scenes work like this will give us the capacity to handle the anticipated traffic, so expect a few more maintenance windows especially in the beginning of next year as we've got some neat ideas to improve performance around here! We had the recent 30-45 minute outage yesterday due to one of our logging databases filling up disk space -- not so great design coupled with my human error in handling the initial problem -- and it looks like we're going to finally have some resources to eliminate stuff like that. I can't wait!

life is a game with which you are juggling five balls in the air. work, family, health, friends and spirit. work is a rubber ball. if you drop it, it will bounce back. but the other four balls are made of glass. if you drop one of these, they will be irrevocably damaged or even shattered. they will never be the same.

sobrang busy last week. trabaho-bahay lang ang moda ko tapos nagkasakit sakit pa in between. at may mga nang-aaway pa on the side.  ayus din. nakakatawa lang sila eh. tsktsk.

anyway, masaya naman ako sa ginagawa ko sa work ngayon.  nag-iimprove ang level ng contact with my engineer crush. hihi! gabriel pala ang pangalan nya...haaay!

Today I waited in line for four hours listening to Sweet Disposition and nibbling on Mr. Chips to pay for Jillmer's tuition. Poor man still hasn't recovered yet and is so bummed out at home, learning to play random songs with his guitar. Sometimes I do envy him except when I realize he's got a huge hole somewhere beneath his gymmer abs haha. Peter also went berserk while trapped in lines today but what the hell he's taking his masters. It's like some sort of hobby for the genius so fuck him. My four hours with stinky sweethearts doing PDA pwns his graduate student bullshit.

Anyway, there's too much happening at work lately since it's Originals season and everything's so hyped up, yet everyone's sucking at making it sharp on deadlines. There's also this thing I'd call shorts exhibition where I'm basically the main whore in charge, which sucks. It's been so stressful in the last couple of days man, juggling both Jillmer's reg problems and responding to a lot of major short notices at work. But at least I'm still alive and my torrents still wait for me when I get home. Ah, life.

Salamat... Salamat sa ating munting pag-uusap. Salamat sa pagiging unbiased. hehe. Salamat sa pag-intindi. Salamat kahit na hindi na ako nakapagtrabaho nun at may mga kailangan pa akong gawin nun. haha... Joke lang.. Pinili ko rin naman na mag-usap na lang. haha. :) Lumipas ang oras at talagang usap lang din. haha. Walang pakialam sa mundo...

In recent weeks, we've taken huge steps towards blocking spam accounts on LiveJournal. In fact, we've suspended as many as 30,000 accounts in a single day! We've implemented several pre-emptive measures to prevent the creation of spam accounts, and we've honed our detection of suspicious content. Spam bots are a crafty lot, so we'll continue to refine our tactics and keep up the good fight to keep you safe from spam attacks on LiveJournal.

RSS feeds again

If you're addicted to xkcd_rss, icanhaschzbrgr, or other syndicated feeds, we're pleased to report that we've resolved the update error that was mucking up your RSS feeds. While content was being pulled correctly, it wasn't being posted to the feeds themselves. Late last week, we finally nailed down what we hope was the root problem, so content should post properly. We thank you for your patience.

yang is one of the most sunshiney persons i ever knew - as in sobrang tamis, pramis!  nakasabay ko lang siya sa gate ng greenland.  nagulat ako nung binati niya ko dahil busy akong nagmumuni-muni about serious things in life (i.e., kung ano kaya ang almusal pagdating ko ng bahay, ilang araw pa kaya bago ang sweldo...) ang ngiti ni kuya mo, abot langit. hangkyut inferness.  parang cartoons!

anyway, kaya lang ako natuwa at nakita ko siya - di dahil sa binayaran niya ang pamasahe ko sa tricycle (pero kasama na yun) - kundi dahil napangiti niya ko nung araw na iyon.  feeling ko masyado na ata akong nagiging seryoso sa buhay at wala ng panahon maghanap ng masaya sa maliliit na bagay.  di tulad niya, punong puno ng positive vibes na parang di nauubusan ng energy.  kinamusta niya ko at kinwentuhan.  meron pa siyang mga tips na binigay tungkol sa.... - well, secret na lang yun, hehehe.  gusto ko makita ang baby niya.  tuwang tuwa siya habang nagkukwento.  invite ko nga yun sa birthday ko, total naman malapit lang bahay nila sa'min.  ang saya niya kausap - para akong nagkahangover dahil kahit nakababa na siya at nakauwi na ko, nakangiti pa din ako.  nakakahawa pala talaga yun.

masayang makasama ang mga taong ganun.  they effortlessly make life easy.

Siyempre, walang effort talaga kung dun sa una at 'di hamak na masmagaan sa loob dahil ang nagmumukhang masama/masama talaga ay yung nanloko.

sobrang saya last week! andaming mga naganap na happy accidents. lam mo yun, mga di naman sinasadyang mangyari, pero sobrang astig dahil nangyari sya at nag-iwan pa sya ng malupet na feeling after.

nung monday, nagkitakits kami ng birds. la yamsuan, ramon bautista at ino magno. bigla lang ang mga pangyayari. astig nga bilang nagyaya lang si la tapos nagpuntahan naman kami.  mas ok talaga pag hindi pinaplano. tagal din naming hindi nagkitakits ng mga to.

tapos yung ping incident sa taumbayan last tuesday. di talaga ako dapat sasama kay alfred nun bilang may lakad dapat kami ni wap. pero nung paalis na kami ng opis, nagkatamaran na kami ni wap at ayun, sumama ako kina alfred at mohini. yun yung unang labas namin ni alfred pagkatapos ng more than one year na hindi pagkikita. mineet namin si micah, frend ni alfred. tapos bestfriend pala ni micah si ping, tas nalaman nyang mahal ko si ping, at ayun tinawagan nya.  pumunta naman si ping sa taumbayan. hayhay grabe lang yung mga kaganapan pagdating ni ping. bilang mga direktor at artista at editor at DOP ang kasama ko, hindi ako nakaligtas sa panunukso nila. at bilang artista si ping, pinag-act nila kami kunwari ng isang eksena. hay grabe lang yung nagmemelt ako sa mga tingin ni ping. hahaha! di ko na ikukwento details, andami eh.  basta sobrang saya lang nakabond ko si ping. astig sya bilang tao. grabe ilang araw din akong 'cant stop smiling mode' dahil sa kanya.

nung wensday naman, tomato kick mode ako with alfred and la. magkahiwalay na table nga lang, palipat lipat ako. grabe ansarap ng tinapesto! dun ko natikman ang pinakamasarap na pesto ever!

thursday nagedit ako sa runway tapos makati after. nagdinner kami ng andoks nina onin at eli at nic sa opis habang inaantay sina wap at jojo.  nung dumating na yung dalawa, go go toyz naman kami bilang may tugtog dun si lei. answerte lang namin nung gabing yun bilang lahat ng mga kaganapan ay fumavor samin.

friday night naman, nagedit kami sa knowledge.  bumabagyo nun at ang hirap makahanap ng taxi. nagtry sina alfred at japs pero nabigo sila. nung ako naman nag-attempt pumara ng taxi, ayun me tumigil agad. haha. pordat, dumiretso kami ni alfred kay tinz para kunin ang hiniram kong nurse outfit kay syrel (na by the way ay aksidente ko lang din nalaman kay peter dizon na may ganun pala sya). so yun, habang bumabagyo, nasa kalye juan kami nina tinz at alfred, kumakain ng uber sarap na sizzling tuna at bangus kare kare. grabe sobrang dabest yung kare kare! as in. di ako makaget-over.  thanks guyst! lalo na sa support sa mga endeavors ko in life. hehe. diba tinz? at natuklasan ko pa nung gabing yun na yung apartment pala ni tinz yung pinagshootan ng mangatyanan. (nastarstruck sa bahay?!)

saturday humouse party kami sa bahay ni eli. sayang hindi gumana yung videoke pero keri lang, pumictorial na lang kami nang bonggang bongga.

kanina naman, monday morning, maaga ako nagising.  naisip ko magjog sa UP.  nung andun na ko, tinext ko si mike bilang naalala ko, niyaya nya ako dati tumakbo. in fairness naman game lang si mike kaya yun. nagkita kami dun at inattempt namin takbuhin yung ruta nya. kaso ambilis ko napagod, grrr! lakad takbo tuloy kami. buti na lang may dala syang bike, kaya umisang round kami sa oval na nagbabike ako, tumatakbo sya. sarap sa UP pag umaga! maulit nga. pero dapat mas may energy na ko para masabayan ko si mike. hehe.

isang happy accident din pala ang pagedit ko sa knowledge channel bilang si mike ang unang tinawagan ni alfred. hindi sya pwede kaya ayun, gumow naman ako. at dahil dun, sobrang hapi hapi joy joy ako sa knowledge.  sobrang bait at saya ng mga tao. sabi nila rumegular raket na raw ako dun. hihi waynat? go lang ako.

hayhay. nilulook forward ko na ang mga magaganap sa week na to... sana makabond ko uli si ping.  at magtuluy-tuloy na ang pagmumove forward ko in life. hehe. answerte ko andami kong kaibigan na tumutulong sakin sa iba't ibang aspeto.  hayhay. ♥♥♥

Tuwing kukumustahin ako ng mga tao, iisa lang ang sagot ko, "gising, trabaho, kain, tulog, gising.. same old same old." sabay hirit ng "boring no?" Wala na rin kasi akong masabi kaya para may iisang sagot na lang din. hehe. Tamad...

Masasabi na nga ba na likas talaga akong tamad? Magsusulat na nga lang ng isang blog, tinamad pa gawin. Eto, buti na lang may naalala pa akong isulat.

Hayun.. Para maiba naman ang sagot sa tanong na "kumusta?" eto at nanood ng sine nung Biyernes.

Nanood kami ni Abby ng 500 Days of Summer. Nung nasa trailers pa lang naisip ko na rin talaga siyang panoorin. Yun nga lang, parang lahat na ng mga tao gusto rin siyang panoorin kaya tinamad na ako. hehehe. Pero eto, nagyaya si Abby, kaya bakit hindi? :D

Nagkagulo pa dahil niyaya sina James na nagcheck pa ng exam papers at Vanie na nag-alangan dahil galing Eastwood pa kaso 'di rin pala pwede.

Oo na... Kasalanan ko na Abby..

Nilibre ko si Abby kasi "wala" raw siyang pera at masmayaman daw ako. Rawr... O well, nilibre rin naman niya ako ng TimeZone. haha. Pinag-boxing niya ako at hindi ako marunong. Pero happy naman. :D Gusto niya sanang mag-videoke kaso walang bakante.

Ayun. Nood na rin ng pelikula. At maganda nga siya! hehehe. Mapapaisip ka... haha... Sa iba, kailangan din talaga ng "labels," sa iba hindi kailangan. Pero ang puno't dulo, mukhang kailangan ay kasunduan ang dalawa kung ano ba talaga.

Hayun... Nawala na naman sa isip ko kung ano dapat kong isulat. O well... At least may masusulat ako sa susunod kapag naalala ko na. :D

EDIT: If you're reading this, our maintenance is OVER! The problem was not found on our equipment, which means we'll have to work with our ISP to fix this small problem -- which also means another maintenance window in the future -- but at least we have eliminated our side.

Hi everyone, sorry for the late notice but I'm going to have to do some testing on 1 of our 4 internet circuits TONIGHT; Friday night or Saturday morning depending on which time zone you're in.

Most of us shouldn't notice any impact, though there may be some slowness or lag when I switch traffic on to our other ISP circuits and then another hit when I stop the tests. If a page won't load or times out, try hitting refresh 1 or 2 times and it should load then. If it doesn't work at all... trust me, I'll be typing really really really fast to try to undo whatever I just did. Hopefully you'll have some Halloween candy (if you're in the USA and celebrate that kind of thing) nearby to take away the bitterness of a small site outage. :(

Here's the handy-dandy Website That I Always Use to get a feel for when the maintenance will start in your area. Our site traffic historically dips on Friday afternoons until Saturday morning which is why we tend to pick this time for maintenance work.

If a friend or relative makes a racist or homophobic remark, do you tend to confront them or let it slide? Are you more likely to confront them if it offends you directly or someone else who seems reluctant to speak up?

1. I find it easier to stand up for other people, and i wouldn't let it slide if they made a rude or hurtful comment.
2. Usually if a friend makes a racist or homophobic remark, I tend to let it slide. I think that while i would not say such things myself, I have no right to censor those around me.
3. This happens all of the time. I confront some relatives, but I refuse to if they are drunk or watch Fox News.
4. I'd let it slide if it was just a private remark... As much as I despise bigotry and intolerance, I know that you can't change people-they have to change themselves ...
5. Confront! confront! confront! Politely, but without equivocation.
6. SPEAK UP. Always, always, always speak up. Letting something slide lets ignorance win. No matter if it offends me directly, or someone else, I will confront the speaker and let them know that's not ok.
7. I don't get offended personally. As an immigrant, woman, gay and person of color if I took every single potentially offensive remark seriously I wouldn't get anything done.
8. I punch them in the balls. With my mind.
9. I do speak up, but often very timidly because I feel that I'm white and therefore I don't really have any authority to lecture someone on what's racist and what isn't...
10. Generally speaking, I do not let this shit fly, because it reduces me as a person, to this non-person and it replicates the destructive discourse that makes sure that sexual minorities, racial minorities, women, people with disabilities, trans people and every intersection thereof into something other than human... And sometimes... I'm just too tired to deal with it, so I roll my eyes, make a sarcastic remark and hope the conversation moves on quickly.
